No smoking policy


1.1 Definitions

Employee - All staff, consultants, contractors and temporary staff of RS Divers. Work Place - Any area where an employee performs their duty. This includes all premises managed by RS Divers such as central and remote sites. As well as vehicles.

Enclosed - Applies to an area, room or premises which is totally or substantially enclosed by a roof or wall. Regardless of whether the roof or walls or any part of them are permanent, temporary; and open or closed.

1.2 General Statement of Policy

It is the policy of RS DiveB that all workplaces are smoke free including all indoor and enclosed areas, vehicles and areas where smoke could drift into workplaces.

1.3 Purpose

Health and Safety Legislation states that RS Divers has an obligation to provide a safe working environment for all employees. In the UK all enclosed work places are now required to be smoke free.


2.1 To protect all workers from second hand smoke, smoking is prohibited within the confines of RS Divers buildings and vehicles.

Outdoor areas of the site will be smoke free except for:

  • Smoking area allocated at the Bridge Tavern Pub

2.2 Designated Outdoor Smoking Areas

Designated smoking areas must be located outdoors and meet the following criteria:

  • A constant movement of fresh air that immediately disperses tobacco smoke
  • Smoke contaminated air does not re-circulate into any building
  • Smoking is not permitted near doorways, windows or ventilation ducts
  • A smoker is not in proximity to non-smokers
  • There are no flammable or other hazardous substances present
  • Areas must be visible signed

2.3 Vehicles

Smoking is not permitted in company supplied vehicles or in private vehicles when transporting people on authorised company business.

2.4 Time out of Work

Employees who smoke should do so in their own allotted breaks. No more than 2 times per day, in addition to their lunch break. Breaks must be limited from 10 minutes from leaving the workplace to recommencing work. Excessive smoking breaks will be regarded as absenteeism and performance improvement action may be taken.

2.5 Smoking on Site

Smoking on job sites is to take place in accordance with site rules and regulations and also at the Supervisors discretion.

2.6 Compressor Intakes

Under absolutely no circumstances is smoking to take place anywhere near the compressor Intakes.

2.5 Disciplinary Procedure and Compliance

The responsibility for enforcing the No Smoking Policy lies with the supervisors.

Staff adherence to this policy is a condition of employment. Any breach of this policy will lead to a formal warning by management in accordance with RS Divers disciplinary procedures.


This policy is to be implemented through the procedures established by RS Divers.

3.1 Breach of the Policy

Failure to comply with this policy could result in disciplinary action being taken against the employee.

3.2 Review of the Policy

This No Smoking Policy will be reviewed annually, in consultation with relevant employees. The date of the review will fall in February each year.
This policy will be made available to each employee upon commen@ment of work and additional copies made available on request.
